If you concentrate on building more and more quality content and build incoming links then you will be going in the right direction. Checking your page rank and Alexa rankings on a daily basis would just waste time which could have been spent on improving your website.
Alexa
Alexa is a website that lists all the websites by the amount of traffic they receive. Alexa does a very complex process by analyzing usage over the internet by millions of people. Their data comes from many traffic data sources which they sort and are able to give your website a traffic ranking.
The traffic rank they supply is based on a previous 3 month historical traffic data from many data sources.
Take the traffic test now and see how well your website is doing.
PageRank
PageRank is a measure of how important your website is by how many incoming links your website has and the quality of them.
PageRank is a snap shot of your website at a particular point in time which is taken before they update their pagerank for every website.
Now if they took a snap shot and then two weeks later updated your pagerank and then you look at your page rank 2 months later your actual pagerank could be 3 months old. So this is not always a wise choice to measure your seo rankings but gives a good idea of whereabouts you are.
Google only update it every 3 to 4 months so checking it on a daily basis is not wise.
Also you could have two websites both with pagerank 5, this does not mean they are of the same value. One site could be at the lower point of page rank 5 where the other could be at the top of page rank 5 which is a huge difference.
