It was funny, I designed my first website quite a few years back and I had read numerous websites explaining what keywords were and how you used them. Well either they had no clue what so ever or they just lied through teeth. I spent 6 months building a website and in those six months I must have had all of around 3 or 4 visitors.
What are Keywords?
So if you feel that you know what they are then carry on reading down the page if not lets go find out. What are keywords?
Are you using negative keywords?
I found out that with my first website that I was using negative keywords, not sure if that is the correct term but it certainly suited them as what they produced through the search engines in traffic was like I said near to zero.
Great you now know what a seo keyword is or should I say seo keyword phrase and what a negative keyword is. This now gives you a basic understanding, before I get into where you use them or where you locate them from I will just mention a big mistake that a lot of web designers do when trying to use seo keywords.
Never use Google's highest paying keywords
Some web designers build web pages and try to make lots of money from Google adsense or other Google adsense alternatives. First of all you should never rely on these programs to make you a substantial income. I not saying do not use them, they do make an extra bit of cash here and there or if you are having thousands of visitors a day then yes it can create a fantastic extra income.
But back to the point I am trying to make. These designers base web pages using keywords they have gathered from Google’s toolbar which say they are the highest paying keywords for when someone clicks on an advert. They think by doing this they are going to make huge amounts of money. Big mistake. If you want to know why you should never use Google adsense top paying keywords then follow the link.
Find Keywords
Now we are going to use a tool that will find keywords, yes keywords not seo keywords, you may have done this and used these keywords in your website, wrong wrong wrong and wrong again.
Click here and after it brings up a new page type in a keyword, maybe "holiday" or "money" or what your website theme is based on and hit return. It then should take a few moments and return a list of keywords and keyword phrases.
Something like this:-

and so on……………
What this does is bring back results of keywords and keyword phrases that people are searching for every single day on the internet.
Like I said in the find niche section this is a tool to find a great niche. Yet it is useless for keywords to use within your website. Yes people are searching for this, but ask yourself do you know how many websites actually contain these keywords? Do you know how good the competition is at seo? Should you use all the keywords in this list or just guess and hope they work?
All this tool does is provide a list of the most searched keywords within your theme or keyword you placed in at the start of the search.
I call these free keywords, should be useless and free keywords and you now have to realise these keywords are no good for seo web design.
Also understand that even if you have a perfect keyword you can’t just stick it on a few pages and hope for the best, there is a lot more to it than that I am afraid.
Long Tail Keywords
Have you heard of long tail keywords, well these are the keywords you use within your content and other areas that will bring traffic to your website and they are the most important thing you need to succeed in the search engine result pages.
Without them your website is like owning a shop in the middle of the Sahara desert that sells lawnmowers. You may get one or two visitors a year, but they want to buy water not lawnmowers.

………..Before we get to the good bit in this section I have done a test page called “Michigan seo solutions” as the keyword phrase. It shows you how to use a keyword phrase to maximise your rankings and to see if the competition for this keyword are using it to its maximum ability. I have also added a slight twist to this test page.
The people that find this web page straight from the search engines will have typed in “Michigan seo solutions” hoping to find a seo company in Michigan that will help them. Oh dear they find this website instead, so I will apologise to them to begin with. I have used this keyword phrase to prove a point that long tail keywords that you will find out about soon do really work.

Finding Long Tail Keywords
You can do it the slow and daunting and very difficult way
Or you can use seo keyword services that are available at a cost. I pay the cost and have a huge list of keywords within minutes that I can work with instead of spending a few hours finding a few keywords.
What ever you do you need these keywords or you will never reach the top 10 in search engines.
Choosing keywords that will rank high
Ok moving on…..Once you have your list you will have negative keywords, seo keywords and lots in between. You have to erase the crap and keep the best.
I show you want I mean here with how to choose keywords.
You need to be left with a minimum of 200 keywords, 300 is better then 400 and so on, it’s up to you but 200 is the minimum at all costs.
You now have 200 if not more web pages you need to create based on each of these keywords.
Once you have your keywords you can follow the seo copy writing section for where these keywords should be placed within your text. Lets see where else you need to use them.
Where else do I use these Seo Keywords?
Keyword domain name is the first place but do not worry too much if you already have a domain.
Meta Keyword Title should always be used.
Keyword meta tag is needed at all costs.
Keyword file name at all times.
Also they should be placed in your links which I will explain later in the seo links section.
Let me show you. First the keyword for this page is “seo keywords”. See at the top of your screen in your web browser it says http://www.seo-web-design-services.com/seo-keywords.html you see seo keywords is my page file name for this page.
Now you can see the title of this page is seo keywords as it’s the header at the top of this page. It can be within a title like “how to find seo keywords”.
Also if you hit your view button at the top of the screen and then click on the source button it will bring up my html source code. Right near the top you will see a meta description, title and so on all with the word seo keywords within it.
Then at the bottom of this page I have a link with seo keyword within it.
Also the home page links to this page and guess what the link is called……yes seo keywords. I guess you are getting the picture now.
Seo Articles
It is also used within articles that I may write, links in directories that I submit etc and then within the text on the page.
I know which keywords will take longer to rank high for.
Ok but if you type seo keywords into Google I am not at the top yet. “Seo keywords” is a difficult keyword as I have lots of competition, it will take longer to reach the top but I will get there. Some keywords take months and months when others can take weeks.
