How to find keywords manually is a slow and daunting task.

It can be done though, if you rather choose the easy option see seo keyword services.

How to find Keywords Manually

I shall use a website theme of "ponds" for this exercise.

Go to wordtrackers free tool and type in your theme and you receive a huge list of results. Something like this but bigger.

 

You need to transport this whole list into an excel sheet.

First column being the keyword followed by the second column being the number of searches per day it receives.

Click on every single long tail keyword phrase in the results list in wordtracker, this gives you a new list of results, copy them into the same excel sheet.

Eventually you will have a very long list of all the searches that people are searching for on a daily basis that is related to your website.

You should now have a list that looks like the above list in excel of maybe 100 to 1000 keywords.

You now need to go through and delete any keyword phrases that are not related to your website. In the pond example I would delete fishing ponds, farm ponds and pond hockey as they are not related.

The only problem with using wordtrackers free tool is that it only supplies the top 100 keyword searches. You could be missing out on a lot of very profitable long tail keywords.

 

How to find Keywords and their Supply?

You need more research yet, use Google to find out which ones you can rank high for and which ones will be to difficult.

You have to search for each keyword phrase in the list using google, anything under 100,000 results is an easy task to reach the top 10.

100,000 to 500,000 results is going to take a little more work but easily do-able.

500,000 to 1 million results is still achievable, it will take longer maybe months maybe a year.

Anything over 1 million is classed to be very competative, so these phrases will take time and effort to reach the top of the search engines.

Major link building required.

The amount of competition can be entered into your third colomn in your excel sheet.

Now the fourth column on your excel sheet can be a simple calculation, divide the number of searches by the number of web pages found in Google and times by 100.

This figure would represent that keywords profitablility. (You get a better picture once you have done all the keywords)

The fifth column can be for any notes you may want to write down.

Repeat this process for every single keyword in your list until you have a complete list with all four columns filled up.
