How To Choose Keywords
How to choose keywords from a list of long tail keywords is quite straight forward.
Hopefully you will have a list of keywords from either wordtracker or Google.
I will use the theme “ponds” for this exercise and I have used wordtracker to search all keywords which has given me their supply, demand and profitability.
Out of the list keywords it returned in a few minutes I have picked out a few in the image below.
How to Choose Keywords out of the list
I will go through each keyword from the image above to help show you how to choose keywords.
Ponds
Now in my eyes and hopefully your eyes you can see that the supply for this keyword is huge. This means that you would be setting yourself a nearly impossible task to rank high in search engines for this keyword. DUMP IT.
Koi Ponds
Yet again the supply is quite huge but not as huge as the keyword ponds supply. I would most likely dump it. But you could rank high for this after a few years of hard work so maybe I would keep it. Is it really worth wait?
Unique Ponds
This is a winner. I would certainly build a web page based on this. The supply is low which means top ten in Google for you if you follow the seo steps within this website.
Floating Planter Ponds
Yet another keyword winner. You have all of zero competition. Top ten of Google again I think.
Outdoor Ponds
This is going to be a doable keyword, but will take serious time building incoming links over a few good months. I might dump it, I might keep it. It’s in the middle.
Wooden Above Ground Ponds
This again is another winner, you would easily reach the top ten of Google which is another traffic guaranteed keyword.
Koi Pond Design
This again is another winner but will take just a little more work. Would keep this keyword no matter what as you could link to many other web pages from this as well.
Waterside Pond Plants
Another winner. You will be in the top 10 of Google with little competition to compete with.
Building Concrete Ponds
Even though the searches are low I would keep this. Some people would cry out for a keyword like this on their websites.
DIY Ponds
You have little competition to compete with, if you follow the seo steps within this website. You yet again you will be in the top ten of Google.
Wine Barrel Ponds
Very little competition to compete with you yet again will increase your traffic using this keyword.
Koi Pond Filter
16500 web pages can easily be beaten with a little bit of time. But with only 240 people searching for it. Would it be worth the wait?
How to choose keywords that are good is all about weighing up all the different aspects. Some keywords might be worth waiting a year to rank high for. Some just may as well be dumped.
Remember you could use the more profitable keywords to start with and in 6 months or even year you could change or create more content based on more difficult keywords. This way you would have built a good solid base of incoming links and would find it easier to rank high for.
