I use Google’s toolbar, it provides pagerank, incoming links and you can also tell if websites have been indexed or even removed from the Google’s database(greenbar becomes grey), this is because people use black hat methods.

Toolbars can do many things that can help speed up certain processes. I love the auto filler, when adding your website to directories etc it remembers what you have previously entered and fills all the boxes for you.
In Google’s toolbar there is a little green bar and depending on the site you visit this green bar will change in length. This is Google’s pagerank, the higher the green bar the more important Google believe this website is.
If you hover the mouse over the bar it will either say N/A, which means it could be a new website or it may have problems. Then you get levels 0/10 upto 10/10.
0 is the lowest with 10 being the best. This is a quality measurement of incoming links your website has, not how many. Find out more about links in the seo links section.
If the Google bar is grey, the website could have been removed from Google’s database, if this is the case do not link to them, you could get penalized.
Click on the Google pagerank bar, a little dropdown menu appears, one of the options is backlinks, which shows links from sites with pagerank 4 or more. Even though some lower pagerank sites creep in.

Alexa’s toolbar provides extra information about websites than the above toolbars. It shows the traffic rankings.
If you visit a site and it ranks 12,876,898, straight away you know that this website receives a small amount of traffic.
If you are exchanging links or submitting your website to directories you can decide if it is worth while. A directory that charges £10 for submission and ranks 13,987,999 is never worth while.
A directory that ranks 234,999 and is a free submission is worth while.
It also shows you who owns the website and how many websites link to the current page you are visiting.
