You need to build link popularity, depending on the market you have entered, this may be a time cumsuming task or at the other end of the market it could only take a few months to have decent results.
Without it, you will not be found in the search engines, when you first start out getting a few links in from wherever you can is a big help.

Here are some linking building methods.
Build Incoming Links From Blogs
Use the link below to check your incoming links and remember that if a website has more links than another, this does not mean that it is more popular or has a higher Alexa ranking.
Same goes for pagerank, at the time of writing this my website is pagerank 2, and I have a higher alexa ranking than lots of page rank 4 websites, which means I receive more traffic.
We all need to build link popularity, question is, how is it measured?
It is measured by the search engines in many many ways. I will be honest with you and do not know the exact formula. Who does? But really, who wants to know the exact formula as long as you know whats right from wrong.
All links that link to you have a certain amount of weight. The more weight a link carries the better it is for you. The weight of a link will vary, this depends on where the link is comimg from. Is it a related website, has a high pagerank, keywords, anchor link keywords, where the link is placed and how many other links on that page.
So for example if a website had 10 incoming links from pagerank 4 related websites and another website had 100 incoming links from pagerank 1 unrelated websites then the website with 10 incoming links would have a higher page rank even though the website with 100 would have a higher link popularity.
This is why you need to find quality links from quality related websites. All links will help towards your link popularity, your pagerank, your rankings, but spending time finding quality links is worth while.
Each link has a certain amount of weight, you want to pass that weight around your website, but as soon as you link out to another website some of this link weight is lost. You are passing on a percentage of the weight to somebody else and not your own internal web pages.
Your home page has 20 incoming links, on your home page you have a navigational bar linking to 10 of your 2nd tier web pages. The link weight from the 20 incoming links gets shared out to the 10 internal web pages.
This gives them 10% each. If you were to add 6 more links to other websites on your home page you would be passing on 6.25% of link weight to each web page. 10 of them are your own pages making you pass on 62.5% link weight and 37.5% link weight to other sites.
You have lost 3.75% on each web page. Total loss of 37.5%.
This can create a dilemma, your home page is the busiest web page and you want to link out to affiliate links etc, but at the same time you are decreasing the value of all of your other web pages.
To have a site built correctly you wouldn’t link out from your home page, but many people do have a few links out. Choice is yours.
One very strong point to make here is that throughout this website you will notice that I am always linking to my own web pages as much as possible.
By doing this I am pushing and spreading the link weight and pagerank of all incoming and internal links around my entire website.
This will make other web pages pagerank within this site increase as well as just my home page which in generally the page that most incoming links point to.
This gives you an understanding of how link popularity works and keeping link weight within your website.
